(Minneapolis, MN, 6/2/2008) Chinese Americans living in the Twin Cities are eager to help the survivors of the gigantic earthquake that took away thousands of lives on May 12. Since that tragic day, many local Chinese organizations and individuals have started donation campaigns to assist the victims back home. On Sunday, June 15 at 7:00 p.m., more than 1400 people will gather at North Heights Lutheran Church in Shoreview (1700 West Highway 96, Arden Hills, MN 55112 651.797.7800) to offer prayers and raise money for the earthquake victims. This charitable event, called Twin Cities Earthquake Relief Concert, is organized by MSCA (Minnesota Sichuan-Chongqing Association) and 40 other local Chinese organizations. Representatives from communities, businesses, government and legislature are expected to be present.

This concert is intended to highlight the solidarity of all local Chinese organizations behind this relief effort and the importance of reaching out to seek help from other communities in the greater metropolitan area. “I hope that, by promoting this charitable event, people from all communities will become more aware of the unspeakable human suffering caused by this earthquake, and step up to do more for the victims and survivors,” said Dingman Yu, acting president of Minnesota Sichuan-Chongqing Association.

The concert will start with a one-minute silent prayer to honor those 60000 lives that were confirmed to have been lost in the catastrophic earthquake. Performers will take turns to recite poems, sing songs, and dance to some sorrow tunes in memory of vanished towns, villages, schools, and families. The organizers have also invited some special guests to take part in this relief concert. Joining the honorable guest list will be (list of invitees/VIPs to follow).

This earthquake relief concert is coordinated by MSCA and 40 other local Chinese organizations. Their unreserved support and extensive involvement in planning and preparing for the concert have allowed the Chinese communities in the Twin Cities area emerge as a unified voice to seek recognition and condolence.
